EA games recently released their fiscal report for their fiscal third quarter of 2010. With numbers like $1.26 billion in revenue, down from $1.65 billion in the previous year, it sounds like EA is still doing ok. The company lost almost as much money as AMD in the past couple of years, and this forced the closure of some studios and more importantly, re-focusing on producing higher-quality titles. At least, that’s what the management is now saying and games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect and signing up teams such as Epic Games. The important information released, at least to gamers, is all about EA?s planned releases for fiscal year 2011 – converted into regular calendar year, we’re talking about this one.
The Triple A titles that really jump out are FIFA 2010 World Cup and Tiger Wood PGA Tour 11, both being released in the first quarter. We’re quite pleased to see EA sticking with Tiger Woods even after his recent affairs – after all, to paraphrase EA’s slogan: "Tiger Woods – He’s in the game." The future of the franchise, however – may be up for a reboot after hearing that the development team behind this title suffered major cuts and that the company is bringing fresh minds. Also, "coming our way in May" is Need For Speed World, an online take on the popular franchise. The second quarter i.e. this summer includes APB, Cops vs. Robbers MMO, all-new Medal of Honor [franchise reboot], Madden NFL 2010, FIFA 2011, and NHL 2011.
MMA is an interesting opening of a new franchise for EA Sports
The Holiday season [third fiscal quarter] is however, filled with strong titles. EA is coming out with Crysis 2, EA MMA [mixed martial arts game], NBA Live 11, and The Sims 3 for consoles.
Unfortunately for us, perhaps the most intriguing titles aren’t coming out in 2010. Going out with a bang in the fourth fiscal quarter EA will be launching Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, an all-new game from Epic Games [we wonder is it Epic themselves or perhaps CliffyB’s team – famous for Gears of War 1 and 2], another new Need for Speed title, a new Spore title and something very cryptic. COO John Shappert called this mysterious title "Something far-reaching from Mass Effect." If you have read a review anything new from mass effect should be something to get excited about.
