Star Wars Celebration V conference logoThe city hosted Star Wars Celebration V – yes five, as this is the fifth in the United States out of seven world wide since the Celebrations were launched in 1999. One Celebration each in Europe and Japan account for the other two. This year?s event was scheduled to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back, Episode V.

Lucasfilm Ltd and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment made the announcement of the coming Blu-ray edition at the event. Additionally, the world debut screening of a newly created video that commemorates Episode V took place on Thursday: Thirty Years Later: A Conversation with the Masters. Looking back, reminiscing and discussing the film are George Lucas, producer; Irvin Kershner, director; Lawrence Kasdan, writer; and John Williams, musical composer.

Reed Pop Group who runs Comic Con joined Lucasfilm in producing the Star Wars Celebration V. Interactive events, and cast and crew members who were on site for autographs and interviews thrilled the crowd. Tickets numbering 21,000 were pre sold before the doors opened.

Most attendees arrived in costumes representing their favorite characters – storm troopers, sand people, ewoks all were there. Exhibitors offered show exclusives. Random House made a free downloadable Celebration V mobile app for the iPhone and Android available.

Joe Corroney's Star Wars ArtOfficial Star Wars artists brought limited edition prints of their work, including Joe Corroney who produces Star Wars art for books, games, trading cards, comic books, posters and magazines.

Carrie Fisher, of Princess Leia fame – was on stage with Mark Hamill, alias Luke Skywalker, and George Lucas himself. All looking a bit older than when they first emerged on the scene in the 1970?s.

Lucas had to say of the upcoming version of his epic, "Blu-ray is the absolute best way to experience Star Wars at home – in pristine high definition." However, fans must restrain their excitement, the actual release isn?t anticipated until 2011.
