Research In Motion, Canada-based BlackBerry maker, could be set to launch three new smartphones. The devices have just been leaked to Boy Genius Report, a mobile-oriented site with a pretty accurate track record in rumor reporting.

The first phone is a next-generation BlackBerry Curve code-named "Apollo." The second device allegedly called the BlackBerry Dakota should be marketed as the jewel in the crown of the BlackBerry family. Finally, there’s also a Torch successor in the works as well, dubbed the Torch 2.

Both the new Curve and Dakota are said to be between ten and eleven millimeter thin (14.6 millimeter for the Torch 2) – a nice progression in the engineering department considering most BlackBerries so far have been a little bulky. For comparison, iPhone 4 is 9.3mm thin. Also, both smartphones should launch with BlackBerry OS 6.1 and will sport a five-megapixel camera, faster processor and magnetometer sensor.

The Torch 2 is said to up the ante with a 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, an OpenGL ES-capable GPU, 8GB of built-in storage and other premium features.

Support for 3G mobile hotspot functionality and the NFC chip is apparently planned for all three devices. If true, the on-board NFC chip will facilitate the exchange of data between devices over about four inches distance, paving the way for contactless payment on the new BlackBerrys – eat that, Apple!
