While some information provided by Microsoft during their quarterly results (and earlier rumors) did note that they are working on adapting Windows 8 OS to work on tablet devices similar to the Nexus 7 and iPad mini, a leak just popped out in the public and unveiled the 8? Acer Iconia W3.
Acer Iconia W3 fits in one hand
Minimachines.net, a French website dedicated to ?netbooks, tablets and ultramachines,? revealed a whole set of what appear to be press photos of the upcoming Windows 8 tablet from Acer. Iconia W3 will allegedly be powered by a 1.8GHz Atom Z2760 and 2GB of RAM, and while it certainly won?t break any benchmark scores ? the device itself will be small enough to compete with aforementioned competition, while having a full operating system (Windows 8 Pro 32-bit) on board at the same time.
Keyboard accessory does not appear to carry an extra battery
People at Minimachines are unsure of the certain details regarding the device specification set, but they assume that its 8? IPS screen will have a 1280×800 resolution, and that there should be two cameras onboard (unknown resolution). Tablet appears to have a dual speaker system, USB and HDMI ports, a microSDHC slot, and no proprietary dock connector ports of some sort. Of course, there is still the ?Windows? button, but it is nested on the right side of the device, while front facing camera occupies the left one.
Iconia W3 will have an optional chiclet keyboard dock, which apparently won?t carry an additional battery or provide advanced syncing options. Additionally, a protective cover is also pictured, and it very much reminds of the numerous other products available for iPad line of tablets. Pricing is unknown, but availability is expected somewhere in September 2013. Worth noting is that Intel wants to make Windows 8 Atom tablets for under $200 by the end of this year. If that happens to be the case with this device, it could be a very interesting choice ? together with the rest of whatever comes up in this smaller form factor.
Update: Acer has asked the source website to remove the information about the tablet.
