After quite a few months of silence, folks at Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) have finally decided to reveal the most current Windows 8 sales results. At the very beginning of the year Tami Reller, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Microsoft noted that 60 million licenses of Windows 8 had been sold since the OS was generally available. Now that the results are in, company is doing fairly well ? with over 100 million Windows 8 licenses sold, which is supposedly on par with the results Windows 7 had in the first six months.

While Reller does agree that the Windows 8 is ?a big, ambitious change? and that the company understands it will probably take some time before the changes are refined or generally accepted, she considers the PC world to be far from the decline – if anything, it is evolving. ?The PC is also part of a much broader device market of tablets and PCs. Windows 8 was built to fully participate in this broader and increasingly mobile device market,? she added. Refinements, however, are expected in the user experience, as Reller notes that they are aware that there is work to be done in that area ? on the software side of things.

Curiously, some information about the Windows Blue emerged during the Q&A. Teller says that the Blue is a codename for an update that will be available this year, exactly as the rumors and leaked builds suggested. This update will supposedly build upon the Windows 8 core while delivering the new generation of innovative devices in all form factors, sizes and functionality. Microsoft considers the touch devices to be the future, and various new hybrid form factors that emerged are playing along in the creation of the new opportunities for the ecosystem the company is trying to build. More information on Windows Blue will certainly become available in late June, during the developers conference in San Francisco.

Shares of the company have peaked today at $33.75 on the NASDAQ, their highest level since January 2008.
