As history appears to repeat itself, it appears as though LG’s Optiumus G2 is going to be launching from on August 7th, in New York City. We received the invitation from them this morning, and while they didn’t explicitly state that it would be the Optimus G2, the sucessor to the Optimus G and Optimus G Pro, the timing and messaging are pretty obvious that is exactly what will be happening. Just don’t mix up the Optimus G2 with the Optimus G2X, which was an older LG phone that featured Tegra 2 that brings LG back to the days when they didn’t know how to make phones.

The Optimus G2 is rumored to be one of the first with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor, which is not much of a stretch when you consider the fact that Qualcomm’s last flagship SoC, the APQ8064, launched with LG inside of the Optimus G late last year. We recently benchmarked the Snapdragon 800, so you can see about what kind of performance you can expect to see from the Optimus G2 when (if) it launches in August. The phone is rumored to be a 5.2" device with a 1080P display, both of which are pretty much standard for any flagship phone right now. What will be interesting is to see how LG will differentiate themselves from the competition other than being the first phone with the Snapdragon 800.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make the August 7th event, but we’ll certainly be covering it for you guys as it happens since LG’s last major flagship device, the Optimus G, was a fantastic device from our own experience.
