Executive vice president of Samsung?s mobile business, Lee Young-hee confirmed that the company plans to unveil both their smartwatch device and the next generation Galaxy Note during the IFA show in Berlin next week. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(ADR)(LON:BC94) wants to get to this particular market before Apple does…

In an interview with The Korea Times this Monday, Lee said that the smartwatch is going to be named Galaxy Gear, and unlike what rumors suggested, it will not have a flexible display. Additionally, it seems that the first smartwatch from Samsung Electronics will be a concept device only, having a sole purpose of feeling the pulse of consumers. ?We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4,? Lee said to The Korea Times. ?The Gear won?t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry,? she added without giving too much information, which could potentially ruin the IFA showcase.

Galaxy Gear will be the ?perfect companion? to Galaxy range of smartphones, and will be running a variant of Android mobile platform. In fact, it seems that the device will be very similar to what Sony launched as an accessory to their Xperia Z Ultra phablet ? SmartWatch 2. Rumors suggest that the Samsung?s smartwatch is going to be powered by their own Exynos 4212 SoC (1.5GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, ARM quad-core Mali-400MP4 GPU). Gadget is supposed to have a 2.5-inch 320×320 AMOLED screen and an integrated camera.

Concurrently, Galaxy Note 3 will make its international debut, Lee confirmed without going into specifics. She, however, emphasized that Samsung is the one who opened up this new smartphone device category back in 2011 with their first Galaxy Note device. ?Since then, smartphones with large screens have been a mainstream trend. As the creator of this category, we will introduce our customers to enhanced key features on our Galaxy Note devices,? she said.

Rumors and leaks seem to be going in line ? Galaxy Note 3 is supposed to be a 5.68-inch phablet with a 1080p AMOLED screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC or Exynos 5420 (depending on the market availability). Samsung has been having a bucketload of issues with their own chip, which in turn enabled Qualcomm to dominate the handsets of the South Korean manufacturer. Rest of the specifications include 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 13-megapixel shooter, 32GB of storage space (expandable via microSDHC) and should launch with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean onboard.

When asked about whether Samsung has any interest of buying out the BlackBerry, Lee answered that they are not even considering that shot. Next steps for the company include more focus on what they see as a growing market opportunity – enhancing the security of mobile devices.
