A day will possible an AMD CPU/GPU system in Apple Machines..
I hope :-).... I think. 3 or 4 years Apple uses own Chips (bought P.A.SEMI in 2008) or AMD, and throw out Intel.

Apple actually hired one person before Bob Drebin... and I consider that person to be the biggest Apple scoop. Mr. Raja Koduri - a modest but brilliant engineer who rose through the ranks... and also became C-level exec for the GPG. In my personal opinion, Raja's determination was of key reasons how ATI suceeded in performing that 180-degree turn after R600 faltered.

Possibly another reason for buying ATI products:
"The former CTO for the company's ATI graphics product group, Bob Drebin, has indicated on his LinkedIn profile that he is now a Senior Director for an unnamed group within Apple"

apple doesnt care about the 5800 series, because they dont support Directx. so the rest of it doesnt mean anything. the 4800's support opencl 3.0, so that is good enough for them. yes they perform better, but with apple you get 1-2 year old performance anyway.
Good news indeed!!!!

No longer is AMD a 2nd tier company. Apple puts the crem de'la crem in all their devices and machines. So far we have Xbox renewing there contract for the 360 2nd gen and now we hear Apple is on board,,,,,they might just suprise us tomorrow. If so look for a "Gap-up" to $8 or higher.
$399 for a 4870?

Apple takes quite a markup over about the online price of about $150. If they can sell cards for well over twice their value just by putting them in their machines, no wonder they bought so many.
Great
