Excellent post. This will surely help me for my choice to have a fresh install of XP without iTunes gunking the registry for me, while still allowing me to use my ipod touch. I hope this doesn't come back to bite me in the bum.

I'm not sure what you mean by this:

"One last catch - you have to configure the host iTunes installation to pass the iPod directly into the virtual client. This will save you from accidental clearing of your iPod/iPhone."

Do you mean configure it to BYPASS the iPod so it doesn't detect it (and only the virtualized iTunes will detect it?) I can do that, but if that's not what you meant, I think I'm confused on this part.

Also.. isn't it pretty important to set up a pretty large virtual partition if the goal is to use it for an ongoing iTunes library?
You can remove activations for computers you no longer have access to by: Anonymous on 9/24/2009
See knowledge base article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

Under the heading "To deauthorize all computers associated with your account" are instructions on how to remove all activations from your account. It has a couple of limitations - you can only do it once you've used all 5 activations, and you can only do it once in every year. But you can do it.

Thought that might be a useful tip for those who would rather not set up a VM for iTunes.
