Surprised they were so quick to give in really. DRM has been a cure worse than the disease for games for a long time. Now virtually all the major publishers have woke up and realized it. I'm not surprised at the developer's comments though, devs generally hate DRM for needing to be patched in, supported, debugged, etc. Meanwhile the game will still be on torrents within 24 hours and the pirate version will be all the more appealing due to its lack of crippling DRM.
P.S. "99.8% of gamers don't care about Spore DRM" reminds me of the "Speed is King" campaign and "gamers don't care about 32bit color". ;)
