Great article, It seems there were more people than me being pissed about the lack of proper (high-end nvidia) graphics for the Mac Pro and did something about it.! Now it's at least in theory possible for me to consider a mac pro..
I do not trust ati since they mangled the GLSL implementation so badly..
The price tag however will probably keep me with a PC with Ubuntu 9.04 for my graphics development..
Still a bit sad that the Mac Pro's measly PSU can't take 2 of these cards, or even 2 of the ATI cards.. But I've read you can put in an extra PSU in there.. but then it's not standard anymore.
The GT120 card is just pathetic in the mac pro perspective, and apple more so since they try to shove it onto people.. Even more so since snow leopard with GPGPU code in the OS is just around the corner and people buying machines now should at least be able to run them 1-2 years before they're outdated.
With a GT120 they get a machine which was outdated 2 years ago and can't really make use of snow leopard's new features..
However, a GT120 card (_if_ the PSU can take it while still running the GTX285) could be the saviour for people that need one high-end graphics display (with the GTX285) and 2 secondary monitors (monitor setup like: 1x30", 2x19")
