We'll see. by: Anonymous on 7/13/2009
Editor: The economic situation can and does change. Because of the amount of money at stake, care will be taken to ensure that the correct business decisions are made, even if it means delaying or cancelling the project.

As far as reputation, that's a minor concern. This is a private sector, business project; profit is the number one concern.

Given the level of commitment seen by the company, this is not a "finished, but never equipped" project. Too much money is at stake. Plus, not completing the Fab 2 would irreparably damage reputation of GlobalFoundries [and the company hasn't even signed the first non-AMD customer].

As a control systems engineer working for one of the top controls companies in the Albany NY area with a long time relationship with Siemens, I'm glad to see this finally take off. But then, I've seen fab buildings finished before, but never equipped. When they install the tools, then I'll be more confident.

We expect to get a good share of work at the site, both during construction and afterwards.
