How ASUS notebook SNAFU caused a war of words between AMD and nVidia

Please, please please stay on this story! As a recent purchaser of a w90vp-x2, I was absolutely horrified at the issues this machine has experienced.
2d applications sending you to fiery white screen of death, or, just to keep you on your toes, black/brown vertical lines of death.
And I did my research on this product before I bought it, but unless you type "w90vp-x2 white screen of death" all you get is rave reviews about how this machine is the second coming, for about 15 pages.
My beast of a laptop, only 3 days old, has been rma'd back to Asus for over 2x longer than I've had it...to say I'm disapointed is a gross understatement. To think they knowingly put out machines with such fatal flaws...

In the light that AMD's Windows 7 drivers still do not enable CrossFire mode, we have asked AMD for clarification.
Unless AMD responds by Monday, we will run another story and it won't be that favorable. If the situation is this clear, then lack of response on their side is unacceptable.

Drivers for Win7, but no drivers for XP or Vista? That's bull!

Let me get this straight: ATI has drivers for Mobility Radeon 2000, 3000 and 4000 for the unreleased operating system and up to X1800 for all other operating systems.
This is bullshit.

They used Windows Vista x64.
there are no drivers for Windows Vista x64 on AMD's site.
Using the Windows 7 drivers is a workaround that not many users will do. Although I do think the test was not honest this is one part where AMD is wrong.
If the drivers for the mobility 4870 work in Vista (x86 or x64) then they should show up in under the selection for that OS.
So again this is partially AMD's fault for not putting them in an easily identifiable place.
drivers ARE available

if you go to ATI.com you can clearly see mobile drivers for download, for windows 7. this is totaly bs, and if they are using old ass drivers, that is silly. 9.6 is available. stop being so lame nvidia, and use proper drivers....

I agree on the mobile drivers issue. AMD and Nvidia should both change their handling of the proprietary drivers and should introduce an obbligation for all partners to release updates in parallel with official driver releases.
This said, the comparison is really for the "extra thick" buyers unable to update a driver. Or was it for marketing? ;)
Awaiting a serious review with updated drivers and unbiased views.
P.S.: Theo green, Charlie red, . . . definitely Charlie got the best trolls though. ;)

Nothing new unfortunatelly - AMD/ATI were always a few months behind with their drivers and this is why it got and gets kicked by the green camp quite a lot.
Too much wangst...

Do the standard AMD Catalyst drivers support the mobile processors?
Maybe AMD simply stopped providing separate mobile driver downloads?
Has anyone even tried this amongst all the wangst?

You may want to look at how many people AMD fired (especially in Europe) and then do the simple math, which could not handle the prevailing lack of bandwidth for 'true product support'.
