Mr. Anonymous,
Interesting attitude, especially when mentioning a publication that wasn't exactly known for "ass wiping", as you put it.
The fact that the awarded person probably comes from your former employer whom you attack on every social network, that's your claimed prerogative.
Simply put, this section is here to stay. Don't care about sucking up to anybody, since every company gets the same treatment here. No discounts.

This has to be the single most ass wiping article industry has seen since Inquirer-days.

Well, I had some considerations of doing this while on my former publications, but they both had the same negative attitude towards the guys that really aren't earning big bucks, yet they get constantly nagged by hundreds of journalists.
In the past couple of weeks, I've dealt with couple of dozen PRs, and frankly, there is a clear line between ones that are nothing but a hot air balloon - promising the world and then delivering nothing, ones that verbatim copy the press releases and keep the comm on minimum and ones that go the extra mile.
And I though heck, why not - I was surprised when Ivica called me on Monday (which was holiday here, btw), and started asking about our findings and reporting his.
All in all, a pleasant change of pace.
Ed.

Glad somebody out in the PR World actually cares about their customer's satisfaction with company products.
