RE: Snakes by: Theo Valich on 8/18/2009
Hi Anonymous,

I have three Radeon 4870X2 boards. Out of those three, two have Hynix GDDR5 memory, one has Qimonda. Unfortunately, neither of the cards work anymore - they had freak failures of the GDDR5 memory [stripes etc.], and neither of the cards in question were ever overclocked.

I am not sure were Hynix chips used in mainstream production, as I had two engineering samples [one was early prototype, one was post-launch part].

Hi Theo,

have you ever seen GDDR5 chips from Hynix or Samsung on 4870 or 4890 production boards? For GDDR5 there was up to now only the now dead Qimonda.
