You obviously don't completely understand the playstation 3's architecture because your facts are misguided about playstation 3's architecture's maximum capabilities. So believe whatever you want because ultimately it about which platform gives gamers the best overall value.
PS3 ? RAM & VRAM ? by: Anonymous on 9/23/2009
Very good ad about Cell. You know about framerate and WHO works at 1080p and who at 720p?

If PS3 has a poor RAM and VRAM amount...is the thing Sony didn´t tell you, I guess.

GT5: 1920 x 1080p, 60fps (top)
Race Driver GRID: 2560 x 1600p, 80 fps (minimun)

From 1280 x 720p to 1920 x 1200 with AA x 4 and VSync ON (PS3 suffers a lot from VRAM this "ill" called Screen Tearing), what makes you thinking about Cell for moving the graphic quality:
- Textures?
- Distance View?

Not to metion you have to REbuy God of War 1 & 2 and in PC you can play even older games like Operation Flashpoint (2001) and play them without any problem.

So who cares about a PS3 with few RAM and less VRAM for the times which we are living?

Look the resolution on PS3 to -flipping the cover, it is very easy- next upcoming tittles:
Batman AA (720 & 30 fps)
Borderlands
CODMW2
Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising (ps3 version: does it has editor or Sony do not like it?)
Arcania A Gothic Tale
Mafia 2
Mass Effect 2
Bioshock 2
Fallout GOTY
...

Even DIRT, GTA 4, F.E.A.R. 2 are 720p!

For upgrading the resolution from 720p to 1080p you need VRAM -GPU territory-. Nothing to do with Cell.

And RAM, also offers less (Did you saw Legendary Exclusive Game Mode in Capcom´s DMC 4? It is a 64 Bits games Enchanced for:

Much more enemies -look also in R.E.5. Mercenarie Mode: again, RAM.

You were told a tale called "3 things are needed for gaming, I will only speak about ONE" (Cell)

Good tip: by: Anonymous on 9/23/2009
"Next Gen Ready": 64 Bits + Dx 11+ until GTA 4, PC has been using only 2 core in games: imagine now with 4,8 and 12, in 3 years!: in race games, RTS (cpu higher use, traditional genres with)

Great Graphics!.... PLUS the option to play to all your older games in FullHD or even higher resolutions and better framerate!: From Oblivion, STALKER games to Batman AA, Borderlands, Opearation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, Shatered Horizons, Red Orchestra 2, DCS Black Shark, Starcrat 2 & Diablo 3, -any MMO you like want to-, Crysis Wars, ETQW, Insurgency, etc...

Risen, Divinity 2:Ego Draconis, Arcania a Gothic Tale, Dragon Age Origins, Drakensang The River of Time, and much more! :)

in that case then graphics & physics bar is set much higher then 360's considering that technically rsx is beefed up geforce 7800gtx tech.plus cell is a 9 core beast of a cpu that also works as a powerful gpu without the assistance of a actual gpu but combind total power and it's easy to see why it can proce games like grand turismo 5 ect.

"Very nice! Maybe my fears that Crytek would simply scale down the engine so it could be handled by consoles are silly..."

Heres to hoping :)
by: Anonymous on 9/11/2009
I had the same fear, anon, and it looks to be more or less quashed. The fact that it's expandable to DX10.1/DX11 is good to hear. Like you said, hopefully the code is optimized, and I imagine it will be (for speed using the newer APIs, not effects).

The point that the engine is built with consoles in mind also means the code "should" be optimized for a better lower common denominator, especially moving forward with mainstream PCs migrating towards quad core and decent (rv740/rv770/Juniper)mainstream level graphics. Compared to what's in a console (360/ps3), it should be a good fit for scaling to higher resolutions on a reasonable-spec PC.

Things may line up just right to scale between the two while raising the low-end bar, and that's good news.

Very nice! Maybe my fears that Crytek would simply scale down the engine so it could be handled by consoles are silly...

I just hope they don´t forget to optimize the game engine, because not everyone has a super pc to run their games at max settings...
