Turn it around by: Anonymous on 9/28/2009
"Mental illness are the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain, which can be treated with medication"

We read this very often, but it has to be turned around. Nobody would say that "flu is the result of fever". Chemical imbalances in the brain are the result of mental illnesses, especially depression. Treating chemical imbalances with medication can help, but it doesn't treat the root cause of depresion. Aspirin might help lower fever, but doesn't cure the flu, which is caused by a virus.

This article by Darleen Hartley correctly mentions a lot of fundamental causes of emotional problems.

Religions & Society Today by: Anonymous on 9/25/2009
Again, as always, religion poking it's nose into where people don't want it.

It's an old faith not being able to keep up with the new times... Well, it's either that or they just don't want change. Think of 'the good old days' where religion had absolute power; sought through the coming together of the local neighbour/town/street/whatever else. Now that technology has made it easier, cheaper and quicker to communicate, said religions are finding it harder to keep their 'flock' together...

As I always say to my friends and other people -- if and when they ask, of course -- religion has no place in today's society...

On topic: I have to agree with suicide.org and say that depression is pretty much THE route cause of suicide; a relative is bi-polar and a closer relative once tried to commit suicide due to similar reason... Nothing to do with whether or not she 'had the latest model' (David Firth quote).
