In many cases you are correct. However depending on the way that the spatial information is processed you can get a good simulation of stereo from s single source.

Bose has been doing this for years in their wave line. I own a Tec On Model 55 tube amp which is aimed at the iPod and computer sound [we also reviewed it http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/6/10/tece280a2on-audio-model-55-integrated-vacuum-tube-amp-for-pc.aspx] it sounds imply stunning even with the stereo speakers close together.

You can get good and clean audio from a PMP if you have a clean output device. While I have not heard the orbitsound products we are getting the T3 for review and will let you know how it sounds using the same style of testing.
I doubt it.. by: Anonymous on 1/26/2010
If its for an ipod, I guess you take it on the bus or your hotel room etc and its probably good enough for that.

But at home even a fairly large boombox, fails a bit at stereo.. sounds almost like mono, compared to having two larger speakers thats further apart IMHO.
