That was on his mind because he was thinking about how Fermi is going to bomb pretty soon.

Re:Terrorist have won by: Anonymous on 2/17/2010
The reason why I made that statement is because if you look at the security measures coming up and what passengers are subjected to it gives the impression that the US is becoming a police state. Though Europe already has tighter airport security for much longer because of terrorism in the 70s and 80s so many Europeans wouldn't be uncomfortable with the US process. Many Americans however have been used to using airline travel they way they would use public transit or trains, ie get on and get off with little to no problems whatsoever.
That checking lines and delays are so long coupled with the cutbacks to food and services provided by the airlines and you get the present situation. It's very unappealing to travel unless absolutely necessary.
It's why I'm a fan of teleconferencing and tele-work technologies, with the level of computing power and upcoming infrastructure upgrades to the end user(business consumer) it should be possible to present a very comfortable "user experience" for business meetings, a huge cost and time saver in the end.

As for jokes, I've never joked around any authority figures or staff, they can take things the wrong way, especially in a foreign country where the politics and culture are very different. Silence is always the best policy in customs or around police of any sort.
RE: Terrorists indeed won? by: Theo Valich on 2/17/2010
I remember how the travel used to be... honestly, I am segmenting my trips to US as much as possible. For instance, I refuse to use Washington Dulles and Los Angeles International, as these two are toilets, and not airports. SFO is really good, DEN as well. As far as making a bomb joke, come to Croatia and make a mine joke, and then see what happens if you happen to be next to a person that had someone dying from mines.

I would never ever use a bomb joke in a plane, simply because it is not appropriate, not just the laws. If you think terrorists won, think twice.

For instance, I never-ever had a single issue entering US and often joked with the Customs officers [given that I had around 50 entrances into US in two years in my old passport], but doing the bomb joke - not a smart thing to do. Especially if you know you should not say something like that. For instance, try mentioning Tianamen Square or Dalai-Lama in mainland China - same thing will happen as to that Spaniard at Guangzhou in 2005, who was barred from leaving China and barred from exiting the airport. Colleagues that went to Xi'an on Abit's ACON5 duly remember that incident.

Nvidia is imploding!!!!!!!!! by: Anonymous on 2/17/2010
I see this company getting bought out by Intel. On their own they will not last at most 5 more years. Just stating the facts

Maybe he had a Fermi card that was just pulled out of a pc, and was still so hot the stewardess thought it was a bomb.

Hahaha I kid.
Terrorist have won.. by: Anonymous on 2/17/2010
In today's ultra tense world of aviation transport people no longer joke, smile or even greet you in a courteous manner any longer.
Instead the airline passenger is made to feel as if they're taking ConAir, complete with lousy food and 'guards' to make sure you don't get out of line.
I'll be glad when they can perfect a full immersion video conferencing system, that will be the end of 80-90% of business airline travel.
Most airports and especially US airports feel like you're in the movie "Escape from New York", high security, being treated like one of the inmate and even talking too much can get you into trouble.
The terrorists have won, they don't need to bomb any flights anymore...
