It's going to drive people away from ebooks I think; making it a bad solution to solving "dwindling profits".

How about this, publishers: reduce prices on ebooks to half what you charge for a printed copy. Enjoy the tons of money you make as you sell a ton of copies and give the average person some reason to be interested in ebooks.
