World's First DirectCompute, GPGPU benchmark released

After last week the world saw its first DirectX 11 benchmark - courtesy of Unigine Corporation, the time has obviously come to see the world's first DirectCompute benchmark.

Download the DirectCompute Benchmark - Click on ImageWe got the nod from Eran Badit, editor-in-chief of NGOHQ.Com - their Forum member "Pat" released his first public version of DirectCompute benchmark, currently in version 0.15. This application tests the GPGPU capabilities by calculation FFT-like data and some memory transfers. For a first public appearance, the benchmark looks good even though we have to qualify it in the synthetic benchmark section.

The application itself relies on DirectX 11 environment - you can use either Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 [unlike ATI demos which require Windows 7 OS instead of DX version checkup]. Also, the developer recommends using the latest drivers for the graphics cards.

It is also worth to mention is that the benchmark is not limited for only DirectX 11-class hardware, so owners of nVidia hardware don't need to cry foul over nVidia's inability to produce hardware according to their own roadmaps and promises.

If you are interested in this benchmark, you can download DirectCompute Benchmark v0.15 from the download section at NGOHQ.Com.

9800GTX runs this well by: Anonymous on 11/9/2009
all nVidia's DX10 card can run DirectCompute if you use windows7 or windows vista sp2 DX11. of course 9800GTX can run this too. ATI's DX10, DX10.1 cards are not yet applied. only 5800 5700 series can run DirectCompute.
Does it run on nVidia 9800GTX by: Anonymous on 11/4/2009
Does it run on nVidia 9800GTX?

LOL. Another DirectX 11 benchmark. I wonder how much dough John Fruehe wastes on advertising like this. Not only is it bound by Windows, true GPGPU clusters like Japan's Tsubame use Linux. So a proper OpenCL GPGPU benchmark is overdue.

IP address change delay

Greetings,

The planned network provider change will not happen as planned, due to our site administrator ending in hospital as a consequence of his gliding accident. The wounds are not life-threatening but Mr. Ivica Hosko is still in the hospital, four days after the crash with transportation to Zagreb in two days time. We send our best wishes and hope for a speedy recovery. As soon as Mr. Hosko returns to his daily post, we'll announce the details of our network provider switch.

The following message is for Mr. Ivica himself:  "Ivica, you nut - gliding around a 2km/6600ft mountain with changeable winds in November?"

Thanks for understanding,

Ed-in-chief
