A day after Paul Otellini announced that Intel shipped over a thousand samples to 30 different OEMs, the first pictures and benchmarks started to show... dual-core + GPU Clarkdale was first. Originally, AMD was supposed to be the first company out with a CPU+GPU concept. However, the company seriously messed up with its 45nm + 40nm "Falcon" Fusion CPU+GPU processor, cancelling the part and delaying Fusion CPU+GPU all the way to 2011.
Intel cancelled their 45nm Havendale CPU+GPU part as well, but they cancelled not because of AMD, but because their 32nm process is ready! The company shunned Havendale and Auburndale and pushed 32nm Clarkdale by six months ahead of schedule. User JCornell from XtremeSystems forums got his hands on both cancelled Havendale and upcoming Clarkdale, and decided to picture the part and run some benchmarks.
Meet Clarkdale... this modest piece of hafnium-infused silicon is looking for a date with a cute compatible motherboard.
The sample works at 2.39 GHz [2.4 GHz] at 1.05V. Technical characteristics of this processor from Westmere "tock" [32nm refresh of Nehalem architecture] are as follows:
- Dual-Core CPU
- Socket LGA-1156
- 128KB L1 cache [32 Data + 32 Inst.]
- 512KB L2 cache
- 4MB L3 cache
Integrated graphics is nothing to write home about – iGFX or Intel Extreme [Slow] Graphics posed as connected to the PCI bus, and used 32MB of system memory [probably DDR3-1333]. The dual-core completed the SuperPI 1M calculation in 18.125 seconds.

All in all, things are cooking. This part is scheduled for introduction in Q1 2010, unless the company moves it forward into 2009. Kudos to JCornell on this extraordinary "catch" with a paraphrased verse from a certain pop song - I bench'ed the CPU and I liked it, hope my boss won't find me. NHF.
