Gigabyte’s GO OC US Regionals this Saturday

Giga-Byte Computer Co. Ltd., or simply known as GigaByte decided to put things into higher gear. The company opened itself to overclockers last year, and since then the company pushed the overclocking mantra across product segments too. In order to put the money where their mouth is, the company organized a world-wide tournament - GO OC 2009 [Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship]. The Pan American Final competition will be held in the City of Industry [Los Angeles, CA]. The event will start this coming Saturday [April 25th, Ed.] and go through Sunday - yielding a Pan American winner that will travel to the World Championship event in Taipei, Taiwan. The final will actually be held in the landmark Taipei 101 skyscraper during Computex Taipei 2009, on June 3rd.

We visited Taipei 101 on more than one occasion and one thing is certain… "Overclocking with a View" should be the name of GigaByte's video, to [badly, Ed.] paraphrase "A Room with a View". The winner of the regional competition will be the one who gets to continue towards the World Championships against other regional winners as well as last year’s GO OC 2008 Best P45 and Free Style champions. The configurations for the systems that will be used during the competition are as follows - incorporating hardware from each respective manufacturer that has helped make this event possible.

  • Intel provides a Core i7 965 Extreme Edition CPU and an X25-M SSD
  • Gigabyte provides GA-EX58-UD4P Motherboard as well as the GeForce GTX260-216
  • Kingston provides 3GB HyperX DDR3-1600MHz with X.M.P
  • Enermax powers the systems with their Revolution 85+ 1050W PSU

What event can go without a little bit of Liquid Nitrogen? Sunday is the Freestyle day and time when competing teams will be attempting to break world records. The official competition benchmarks are SuperPi 8M and Futuremark's 3DMark06. The Operating System of choice is Microsoft Windows XP SP2.

The following overclockers from North America http://gooc2009.gigabyte.com.tw/web/Eng/gigabyte_state-1.html   will be competing in the regional finals: 3oh6 [Canada], Mikeguava, Guatam [USA], Rdrash [USA], TiTON [USA], Buckeye [USA], Miahallen [USA], Gomeler [USA], Maxi [USA], Ross [USA], Sno.lcn [USA]. We wish good luck to all the contestants, and let the coolest [literally, Ed.] system win.

IP address change delay

Greetings,

The planned network provider change will not happen as planned, due to our site administrator ending in hospital as a consequence of his gliding accident. The wounds are not life-threatening but Mr. Ivica Hosko is still in the hospital, four days after the crash with transportation to Zagreb in two days time. We send our best wishes and hope for a speedy recovery. As soon as Mr. Hosko returns to his daily post, we'll announce the details of our network provider switch.

The following message is for Mr. Ivica himself:  "Ivica, you nut - gliding around a 2km/6600ft mountain with changeable winds in November?"

Thanks for understanding,

Ed-in-chief
