Ubuntu's Jaunty Jackalope is out

Just like a clockwork, a new version of Ubuntu 9.04 came out. The Ubuntu project continued its bi-annual cycle with April and October being the "Ubuntu months". This time around, version 9.04 carried a funny codename - Jaunty Jackalope.

Two major features in this brand new version are faster boot [the press release claims 25 sec] and much improved power management - for all users running this Linux distribution on notebooks and netbooks, this feature could mean longer battery life. Also present are Instant Access [after resuming from hibernation], and road warriors will like the fact that the support for 3.5G/WiMAX hardware is vastly improved. Devices that support intelligent switching between WiFi and 3/3.5G networks should have no issues in keeping you online…

When it comes to work productivity, Ubuntu 9.04 now features OpenOffice v3.0 and for the first time, Ubuntu features a new integrated notification system - yes, the time of potentially annoying, potentially work-saving alerts finally dawned on this version of Linux. If you head to the official Ubuntu site - you can find versions of Ubuntu 9.04 for desktop, servers and a Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix, USB version of the distribution. In any case - cool.
