Panic from swine flu spreading through social network on the web

Today the U.S. declared a public health emergency over the Swine Flu. It was confirmed that 20 cases of the flu spread to people in New York, Ohio, Kansas, Texas and California.

At least 81 people have died in Mexico from the disease and more than 1,300 people are infected. The virus started to spread across the world pretty fast (it has already spread to U.S., New Zealand, Spain and United Kingdom) and experts are in fear from pandemic. Although Federal officials are telling Americans not to panic about the disease, fear of the potentially deadly flu is spreading over Twitter, Google, and blogs across the web.

Swine Flu is the most popular story  on Twitter at the moment and users are rapidly tweeting about the latest news about the disease, where it has spread so far, the Center for Disease Control’s announcement, etc. Google Trends reports that "Swine Flu Ohio" is the 25th most popular search keyword currently, and searches for the "CDC" and "Swine Flu Symptoms" enters top 100 keyword searches on Google.

Maybe we can't do anything about the virus, but we can provide a little laughter in this "dark times". :) This cartoon was published more than a year ago, if you wondered.
