Absent-minded inventor Wallace and his trusty canine companion Gromit are back in yet another episodic adventure game from Telltale Games. Time for vacation has finally come but there is only one tiny problem. The weather outside is dreadful and the best course of action would be to delay the vacation and stay at home. Of course, after Wallace sees the sadness in his companion Gromit he decides to save the vacation by any means possible.
The idea how to spend your time on the beach, instead of worrying about the bad weather..
Since they cannot go to vacation, a cunning "genius" as he is Wallace creates a plan to bring vacation to them. The flooded basement will provide perfect "seaside" and all they need now is some sand, a sun umbrella and something to reproduce a fake Sun. Townsfolk have all the necessary items and after some badgering and running about Wallace manages to create his perfect resort. However, hey, why stop there? Since the weather is so bad, he might offer his resort's services to the townsfolk and they will be happy to spend their time and money in Wallace's basement.
Not so satisfied customers
Good idea goes from bad to worse after the master plan fails to result in happy customers... rather... angry ones
While the idea of a resort seems perfect at the time, an explosive mix of incompatible customers erupts and they start to demand money refunds for poor service. Since Wallace spent all the money to expand his original resort he must find a way to please them or he will go broke.
Each customer has its own problem and for some others ARE the problems. A gruff Scottish bully Duncan McBiscuit is constantly terrorizing them. Major Crum does not have all items needed to recreate his historic battle recreation, Mrs. Flitt's small but very vicious dogs are running amok and so forth. To save the profit everyone written in his little book must get a smiley but will the troubles end there?
Who's the man in charge here... military or the police?
Like the last episode of Wallace and Gromit this one continues with their own eccentric style and the dog is the brain approach. As usual, Wallace plans but ruins the finalization and it is up to Gromit to fix things. The support cast filled with wacky characters gives a lot of life to the story. Crazy war veteran Major Crum is back with us. By the book but insanely stupid Constable Ernest Dibbins as well. Mrs. Flitt is a bit more relaxed this time and we have more of the timid cheese seller Mr.Paneer and loud-mouthed kiosk worker Mrs. Gabberly. Duncan McBiscuit is also a great addition to the story offering a both offensive yet likeable character.
Conclusion, Episode 2
This time the story is a lot more complex and intriguing than the last one but I will not go too much into that. Suffice to say it is actually a wacky detective story. While technically we can say this episode is a bit shorter, takes place in a more confined area and has less visits to the town and outdoors the insertion of so many support characters makes it seem more alive and fun than the last one. I find this approach quite likeable and hope to see more of these great characters in the future games.
Using our proprietary TCE (Total Cost of Entertainment) measuring system, we come to the score 145. This score is actually going in reverse, with the perfect score being zero, and well, not so great score being anything more than 300.
