The most recent release of the Call of Duty Series, Call of Duty: World at War, commonly known by Call of Duty fans as COD5, will be releasing a new second map pack to players of the game.
Although Treyarch should be applauded for keeping the game interesting by releasing a new map pack, this appears to be purely a money making ploy and not really designed to benefit the gamers in a way other than to leech more money off of them. Why? Because first of all, they won’t be releasing this map pack to PC gamers. Only PS3 and Xbox 360 console users and both PS3 and 360 users will have to pay for it either in PS3 marketplace for $9.99 or by using up 800 Microsoft Xbox Live points. For this price you get four new maps… three of them are regular maps and one of them is a zombie map, which for many, was the only reason to buy this game to begin with.
Treyarch’s press release goes as follows:

Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2 will include:
Banzai
Deep in the jungles of Japanese controlled territory, players will battle to control the tall river bridge in “Banzai,” a bright, medium-sized jungle map featuring a stunning waterfall, villages and hidden caves well suited for deadly snipers, surprise attacks and all out gun battles.
Corrosion
In “Corrosion,” players will face down the enemy in a deteriorated Russian train yard. Shattered pipelines and war torn train cars decorate this mid-sized map and are great for full-out team combat. Beware, because the enemy could be anywhere!
Sub Pens
“Sub Pens” drops players into a close-quarter abandoned Japanese submarine base that’s littered with live ammunition, breached subs and idle fighter planes. Monsoon rains will be a factor as teams struggle to control key choke points in this tight map designed for exciting and deadly battles.
Shi No Numa (Zombie Swamp)
In this addition to the four-player co-op favorite, the un-ending Zombie horde requires players to keep moving, moving, moving! Imperial Zombies rise from the misty swamps and flaming Hell Hounds blaze through the jungle as players struggle to stick together. The situation is bleak, but there is help on the way: new traps to keep the undead out (the deadly Flogger), a zip line for quick escapes, and best of all, a new weapon: The Wunderwaffe DG-2. The DG-2, aka "The Lightning Gun" is the pinnacle of secret Nazi technology. Packed with 200,000 amperes of devastating chained electrical current, The Wunderwaffe DG-2 should help even the score and enable players to capture the 10 new Xbox 360 Achievements/PS3 Trophies waiting for them inside the deadly swamp.
Personally, while I can never fully disagree with additional content and more fun added to a game, you can clearly see that they released these maps for consoles only because their entire goal was to make money. They knew that if these maps were released to PC’s that they would easily and quickly be pirated at the cost of $9.99 that they charged PS3 owners. As such, we can tell the motives behind the creation of the map pack because they cut out the PC gamers once again. While I am not entirely surprised, I would have liked to expect more from Treyarch.
As one of many people who loved COD4, I have to say please bring back Infinity Ward. They treated PC gamers with a higher level of respect and admiration than Treyarch. Oh, and they make a better game too.
