AVAdirect GT3-based PC: Cool gaming with the ultimate compact gaming case

When Sean Hall introduced his evolutionary take on the computer on E3 2006, we wondered will the PC industry have enough balls [pun intended] to adopt a small volume case that fits a fully fledged motherboard, powerful gaming CPU and a gaming graphics card.

However, Sean wasn't able to tell people that his 370W power supply was more than adequate to power a gaming system. In my review on The INQ, I assembled a pretty powerful gaming rig, but for the past couple of years, the system was based around Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66 GHz, 8GB Corsair DDR2-1066 memory, EVGA nForce 680i motherboard and Gainward 8800GTS 640MB graphics card. Recent build was upgraded to Diamond Radeon 4850 512MB, though.

Small gaming case fit a full-size eATX motherboard, upgraded to QX6700 Quad-Core CPU, LeadTek 8800GTS 640MB graphics card, DVD slim-drive, and a Seagate 250GB. In meanwhile, Seagate got the boot for two SSDs.
Pictures from the old INQ review - GT3 is a small gaming case that fits a full-size eATX mobo, QX6700 Quad-Core CPU, LeadTek 8800GTS 640MB graphics card, DVD slim-drive, and a Seagate 250GB. In meanwhile, Seagate got the boot for WD 1TB drive.

Even though on paper our system should need a 500W power supply, the system work perfectly stable for ages now... I got used to it to a level where I started to carry this case around as a portable gaming rig and the handle was actually more comfortable than carrying a laptop around (yeah, I know, carrying additional display, keyboard, mice is a drag, but my GPU has 800 Shaders ;)

If you want a Photoshop or Premiere workstation, just slap a Quadro CX and two SSD drives in RAID0 for ultimate portable performance. The time for change finally came recently - we received information AVADirect announced that the company became Exclusive GT3 PC system integrator, offering an Intel Core i7 and AMD Phenom II based systems.

The company released two Technical Whitepapers, touching the design and development of both AMD and Intel-based systems. If you're into system assembly or just want to see how a system integrator is doing it, take a few moments of your time and read AMD Phenom II and Intel Core i7 papers. Their systems are modifyable towards workstation, enthusiast and performance markets.
