Intel 32nm Core i3/i5 [finally!] kills the analog VGA port

Whenever we talked about integrated graphics, there was one obligatory requirement: analog VGA or D-SUB port. Vast majority of business projectors still rely on analog VGA, and GPU makers had no choice.

But, things are going to [finally] change in 2010. With the release of a processors codenamed Clarksdale [desktop] and Arrandale [notebook], Intel is merging a 32nm dual-core die with a 45nm one [containing PCI Express Gen2 x16 connection and integrated graphics part].

Output will be done through upcoming Socket LGA-1156, but the most important part is the fact that it will support DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort, but won't support D-SUB. We definitely welcome this move, as it was about time to get rid of analog connectors.

Perhaps now display makers can stop making ludicrous display combinations such as LCD monitor with analog connection only.

I say more power to the companies that produce VGA only LCD. Customers will just buy from another company that doesn't limit their options. And there are plenty of LCD makers out there!

And more power to the EU tax rule if that is one of the reasons why they have VGA only LCD. They can enjoy their advance VGA technology while the rest of the world will just have to do with DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort.

This is a good development, now to remove some more obsoletegizmos such as IDE and Floppy connectors.
Analogue Only Connections by: Anonymous on 7/13/2009
Isn't this the result of some stupid EU tax rules?
Because in Australia I haven't seen a VGA-only LCD monitor in a good 4/5 years.

If the EU persists with the tax rules, you will continue to see VGA-only monitors in Europe.

New Servers are in!

 Greetings and welcome to BSN*,

We have just acquired several brand new servers that are being configured on a multiple 100Mbps links and set up in line with the new features and services that are launching soon. We were assured this investment will solve any issues that plagued the site as a consequence of being linked on mainstream media networks.

We will inform you when the server change takes place, as BSN will be offline for 24-72 hours. Expect a heads-up a week ahead.
