ATI to launch DirectX 11 GPUs in seven weeks

For the past week and a half, we've been hearing rumors citing various dates for the launch of AMD's DirectX 11 graphics cards… ranging from GDC in China to newly invented delays that would push the launch window in to November.

However, all of these rumors are false, given that AMD has firmed its "Cinema 3.0/DirectX 11" launch. As tradition goes, the North American launch will happen in seven weeks in San Francisco [sources disclosed Thursday, September 10th] on a very special place indeed - but we're not at liberty to say where the event will take place. All we can say is that it will be someplace that neither Intel nor nVidia would even remember.

ATI will catapult not one, but rather a complete DirectX 11 line-up into the orbit, ranging from $50 to the high end parts in their respective three-figure pricing brackets. Just like the Radeon 4000 series, consisting out of 4400, 4500, 4600, 4700 and 4800 parts, the new Radeon series will consist out of entry-level, mainstream, performance and high-end parts with one or two GPUs. Note that not all of these parts will be launched on the same day. Some parts might have to wait until Holiday season to get them in OEM-level numbers, but all in all - this is the strongest line-up ATI had in years. We might even dare to say strongest line-up ever from any GPU manufacturer.

According to information we have at hand, initial rumors about the names and specs proved true - these parts bring DirectX 11 compliancy from top to the bottom, and if you want to play upcoming DirectX 11 games [so far, there are six confirmed DX11 titles launching this year] in a budget less than $500, you have no other choice but to go ATI.

Update, July 29, 2009 08:03AM GMT - We received word that Chinese ChipHell website leaked an alleged image of a card belonging to Evergreen family. According to information at hand, the card is a little bit longer than 2900XT, and features two six-pin connectors, just like the 3870 and 4870. Truth to be told, the length of a card would imply a dual-GPU solution to us.

Nothing wrong with ATI video cards by: Anonymous on 10/20/2009
There's nothing wrong with having ATI. Every computer that i have in the house has an ATI card. 1 of them thats an ATI AIW TV Tuner Card, so i dont see whats wrong with ATI. I actually like them better, especially the ATI HD.
RE: Plagiarism by: Theo Valich on 7/28/2009
When it comes to a responding to false accusations, I decided not to go down to someone's level.

As a professional journalist and member of International Federation of Journalists [IFJ], there are certain standards that you don't go below, especially not getting involved in public bashing and bickering.

I have never ever, disclosed a source of a story to anyone, and my former employers know that. That policy stands for every employee of BSN*, and if people disclose sources, that will be handled internally. There were cases in this industry where revealing sources was "awarded" with those people receiving their pink slips [and I don't mean a car] because "bloggers" blogged who the source was.

BSN* was the first site on the whole Internet to publicly reveal the codename of ATI's DirectX 11 architecture [Evergreen], and we were the first to reveal that ATI R800 family e.g. Evergreen is based upon R700 architecture and that the completely new ATI DX11 architecture is coming in 2010, with the upcoming transition of some parts to GlobalFoundries.

We are going to stay here for a long time, and there is no wonder that people will openly dislike us, those people being journalists, execs etc.

Ultimately, it all boils down to choice. BSN* does not charge for content and we are not running ads to show bias to anyone [hence, we're running Google Ads for the time being - we might change this in future, but only if it will not affect our objectivity]. Thus, it is the right of every reader to come and read our content and come up for conclusions themselves.

And now excuse me, we have more content to publish, from the well respected colleagues. After all, this site is not a one man band [like some people were spreading during Computex], there is more than 20 people in the company.

Ed.

Theo, based on the information Charlie has provided, and your lack of response, plus the re-editing of stories, removal of comments, etc., I have no option but to conclude you are a thieving plagarist. I will have nothing more to do with you or any site that employs you.

May you rot in hell for your crimes.
LOL CHARLIE by: Anonymous on 7/27/2009
Charlie hasn't served anyone in his life. The guy has brought down his own reputation through a personal vendetta with certain companies, namely nvidia. Simply put, charlie doesn't have nearly the credibility that you're giving him. Just go around the internet dude. Most people just love to hear his mindless ranting and raving. Or they're such fanboys that it purely fuels their blind hatred for whoever he is criticizing.

Getting back on topic, when did charlie own anyone???
Plagiarism by: Anonymous on 7/27/2009
Charlie served you two already T.V. U dont seem to care ppl are accusing you of plagiarism. Some "reporter" you are. You are not only bringing shame to your self but to this site as well lame0
RE: by: Theo Valich on 7/24/2009
The fact of the matter is that ATI changed it execution policy and ultimately, got things right. nVidia's single mono-die is a great achievement every time it comes out, but nVidia needs to seriously wake up and re-think its strategy. There is little doubt that GT300 will be a great product, but at BSN* we won't stay silent if DX10.0 and DX10.1 parts end up at the lower end of the scale, because it is bad for the game developers, software developers and customers in general.

GeForce 6 series needed 4 months to go from $499 card to $149 (6600GT).
GeForce 7 series needed five months to go from $399 to $99 (7800GTX to 7600GT).
GeForce 8 - Nov 2006 to April 2007 - five months from 8800GTX to 8600GTS.
GeForce 9 - is GeForce 8, no bonus points there.
GeForce GT200 - June 2008 to July 2009. 13 month delay if we're generous enough and approve desktop-notebook change. In case of desktop-desktop, GTX280 debuted in June 2008, G210, GT220, GTS260 will only debut in September 2009, e.g. 15 month delay between high-end and mainstream parts.

at first i thought those were DX11 renders! :)
great by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
This will be an awsome quarter for ATI if this is true. Many Nvidia fan boys will be upset because of it i can read it from there noobish comments. Im going for ATI if they are the most affordable choise for DX11 within 3 months. What nvidia might bring which is atleast half a year away dousnt matter for me. It is likley to cost you a kidney at the launch anyway. And you can ofcourse always wait and wait for new generations to come. i have waited enough and i will get my self one of the first DX11 cards which shows its face.
Awseome!! by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
finally it will be released ! i'v been waiting for it for months!
by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
What six games are confirmed for launch this year?
MCM by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
Just an easy question...

Is Cypress a MCM product? Or are there any MCM products? (2 chips in a package or 4 chips for a card in two packages)

ATI sucks
"initial rumors about the names and specs proved true" by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
And what would those Specs be (for the high-end part)? The shown wafer would suggest 800-1000 streaming processor (likely but not necessarily for the high-end part). There were also rumors with 1200 SPs and 2000 SPs for the top modell.
Interesting read by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
I can't wait!

Which six games with DirectX 11 support would those be?
by: Anonymous on 7/23/2009
Nshtia suck
But wait by: Anonymous on 7/22/2009
I'm not supposed to care!

IP address change delay

Greetings,

The planned network provider change will not happen as planned, due to our site administrator ending in hospital as a consequence of his gliding accident. The wounds are not life-threatening but Mr. Ivica Hosko is still in the hospital, four days after the crash with transportation to Zagreb in two days time. We send our best wishes and hope for a speedy recovery. As soon as Mr. Hosko returns to his daily post, we'll announce the details of our network provider switch.

The following message is for Mr. Ivica himself:  "Ivica, you nut - gliding around a 2km/6600ft mountain with changeable winds in November?"

Thanks for understanding,

Ed-in-chief
