Back To School 09: Are you ready for some Old-school LCD goodness?

Did you ever dream about big LCD on front panel of your computer with all the important information about your system?  And you never been satisfied with displays taking two 5.25" bays you can buy in every store? Welcome to the club.

Smart Display Company is a German company that recently began its charge on the market.

SDC teamed with Megtron and decided to launch a line-up of various LCD monitors, ranging from entry-level mono-chrome displays to 22" touch-screens. They sent us USB LC-Display, an external version of their entry-level model.

Packaging
The USB LC-Display comes in a compact cardboard box that is completely recyclable, which is certainly a positive step from the manufacturer. However, we cannot give out the highest grades since the part didn't come in a recycled packaging, rather used one that can be recycled. Our drop'n'kick test passed with flying colors, and the box didn't dent at all - thus, contents are well protected.

The printed cover clearly shows what are you getting inside the box; contents are present on each side of the package, and the opening part was easy - after removing the plastic shrink-wrap, you just slide the box out and open it. Unlike some products we tested in the past, USB LC-Display comes with an easy-open box.

Inside, you'll find the USB-LC Display device itself, grey USB cable, CD with drivers and additional software and the base. Given the piano finish, we knew that USB-LC Display will get its first finger marks the second we remove it from the protective packaging - exactly what happened seconds after the removal. But unlike some shiny products, USB-LC didn't show its bad side and got scratches everywhere from the micro-fiber cloth. Nope, SDC-Megtron obviously put another coating of color-less paint, giving base scratch-protection. Don't expect miracles, though. Transport-wise, packaging here gives us enough confidence to conclude that you should be able to the device in its default state.
