Did Google OS spoil Microsoft's Office Live surprise?

7/9/2009 by: Daniela Kustre - Get more from this author

The world hasn't come to grasp from the Google's Chrome OS announcement, the alleged answer came from Microsoft. According to the rumor, Microsoft is now eating sour grapes because Google overshadowed a special announcement on next Monday, July 13.

According to the rumor, on next Monday, Microsoft will not only officially release Windows 7 to members of their partner networks, such as MSDN, TechNet and of course, OEM/ODM vendors - but the company is allegedly preparing "something special".

There are several potential products that are being spread, but the most possible one is the announcement of "Computer 2010": combination of Windows 7 operating system and the new web based version of Office; Office Live or Office 2010 Live should include Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note. The goal is to delivered the software suite to the users through Office Live program. The financing version is quite interesting - one way is subscribing to it, which perfectly fits Microsoft's current Small Business program with "software leasing" and its infamous marketing pitch: "Get Microsoft Windows and Office for the price smaller than a single cup of coffee".

Second way is the most interesting of them all, and quite dangerous for present Google line-up: free Office suite, supported by watching ads.

Well, we'll just have to wait till Monday.

IP address change delay

Greetings,

The planned network provider change will not happen as planned, due to our site administrator ending in hospital as a consequence of his gliding accident. The wounds are not life-threatening but Mr. Ivica Hosko is still in the hospital, four days after the crash with transportation to Zagreb in two days time. We send our best wishes and hope for a speedy recovery. As soon as Mr. Hosko returns to his daily post, we'll announce the details of our network provider switch.

The following message is for Mr. Ivica himself:  "Ivica, you nut - gliding around a 2km/6600ft mountain with changeable winds in November?"

Thanks for understanding,

Ed-in-chief
