Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop adopts GPGPU

The creator of the special effects for LoTR, King Kong, Avatar, Halo the Movie and many more - announced that it is adopting GPGPU-accelerated software for their TV production as the most cost efficient solution.

A few weeks ago, we reviewed MachStudio Pro and found that it is a promising start of GPU acceleration in a world of professional content creation. Recently, we received news that the legendary Weta Workshop decided to adopt MachStudio Pro as their television production pipeline.

The news is quite exciting if you're in content creation business or simply content consumption. The arrival of 64-bit processors from AMD and nVidia Quadro FX processors paired with 64-bit Lightwave 3D enabled the creation of Battlestar Galactica and we're quite intrigued to see what a limited TV budget can now fit. Special effects will definitely look out of this world, that's for sure.
