The game eventually turned into a franchise resulting in several sequels [The Sims, The Sims 2, The Sims 3] with numerous spin-offs and mission packs. You can find The Sims franchise title in 60 different countries and in 22 languages. To prove that games are very serious business, you might like to know that the title brought a cool $2.5 billion profit - that's right, profit - not even overall revenue. Given that the total investment EA made in The Sims franchise was less than $100 million, a 2.5 billion profit enabled a creation of many new titles. It is also worth noting that the franchise is extremely popular due to its multi-platform orientation - you can play The Sims on different platforms like PC's, Macs, all sorts of game consoles, and of course, smartphones.

The latest title in the series, The Sims 3 brought environmental friendliness as it gave the players possibilities to grow their own food and to use hybrid cars (Toyota Prius) to travel inside the game.
