DX11 support shows up for LucidLogix Hydra

ArchivebotWe told you about the MSI Big Bang Fuzion and how it worked at CES this year. We even followed up with a tidbit of information about LucidLogix demo at GDC this year. However one of the things that we have not touched on is DX11 support. When we last looked at Hydra we saw there were some issues with rendering DX10 textures and lighting, especially visible in 3DMark 2006 and 3DMarkVantage. So you can imagine that we were shocked to hear that Lucid is claiming full DX11 support with their latest drivers.
We asked MSI about this and have been told that they are confident the DX10 problems we saw have been resolved. This is good news and bodes well for the future of products with the Hydra chip on them.
On another note, the new drivers also bring 3-Way SLI and 3-Way CrossFireX to the game. We know that many will be excited about these new features. We are hoping to test one of these boards around the time they are made available to the public. Of course there is one question that will still need to be answered; how will the Hydra function with applications that use AMD Stream or NVIDIA’s CUDA? It would be nice to see if Lucid can put together a demo of GPUs in mix and match and see if it can dynamically allocate GPUs to the best type of GPGPU performance. Maybe with Adobe CS5. Now there’s a thought.
Editor’s Take
We would definitely like to see if this driver really fixes the issues we reported on multiple times. However, according to information relayed to us from MSI and LucidLogix, BSN* is not on the review list. Is this due to the fact that we might write an honest and unbiased review or not, remains to be seen. Who knows, we might even buy the board. Then again, there might be a better way to spend $359.
