At the xpPhone partners’ meeting held recently, ITG demonstrated the 4th generation of mobile phone, that is, xpPhone, which meets the customers’ overall demand for mobile Internet applications and runs the Windows XP operating system, you can install various Internet software on it for unlimited Internet applications.
According to the research, there are four development stages of Mobile communication:
- Analog: Voice communication
- Digital: SMS, WAP [No OS, very hard to install software]
- Smartphone: Partial mobile internet, WWW, WAP, Video Phone [S60, CE, Embedded Software]
- xpPhone: FIE, VoIP, Voice, SMS, Video Phone

ITG pointed out that "what the consumers want to buy is the application, instead of hardware"
, xpPhone can operate the world's largest software application platform Windows XP, which can run 150 million applications, equivalent to 1,000 times of the quantity of software that Apple App Store can run - meanwhile, the quantity of the software is still increasing rapidly everyday. Therefore ITG is pitching a statement that "Even if Steve Jobs from Apple spends three more years, it is still impossible for iPhone to exceed xpPhone regarding the quantity of software it can run!"
The real question for that claim, of course - is the amount of software that can actually run on xpPhone, as we don't expect that it is feasible to see Steam being installed on an xpPhone. True, there is binary compatibility and you could install it, but the question of performance remains.
China is the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer and consumer, and the number of mobile phones sold in China each month is up to 12 million units, that is, 400,000 mobile phones are sold every day! In China, the 3rd generation of mobile phones – Smartphone are growing 25% annually and are steadily replacing the traditional non-smart mobile phones.

In the first half year of 2010, the number of Internet users in China reached 0.42 billion. The value of xpPhone lies in its significant reduction of communication costs for the users through MSN, Skype, QQ and other VoIP software. It completely changes the mode of communication, and transforms the expensive voice communication into low-cost or even zero-cost data flow, so that you can chat unrestrainedly and freely. Naturally, don't expect this to go lightly with mobile network operators, who are less than enthused with consumers using data transfer for voice calls.
Learning from the meeting, the new mobile Internet communications industry standard - VWPB advocated by xpPhone was released at the meeting, which echoes with the development trend of unified communications and truly achieves interconnection among IT, telecommunications and the Internet.
V - Voice, representing the achievement of the full functionality of mobile phones based on x86 computer architecture; xpPhone, through the patented technology of wake-up from standby mode, firstly achieves all the phone functions for the laptops, enabling the laptops to answer calls and receive short messages in standby mode.

Qualcomm’s CEO pointed out: "Communications and Internet are the main demand and trend in the future".
However, mobile phones and Netbooks can not perfectly address both the demands simultaneously. ITG is pulling all the stops to make xpPhone an ideal platform to unify the home, office, vehicular and outdoor platforms, and as the representative of the 4th generation of mobile phones.
Naturally, in order for all of this to happen, we would expect to see ITG seriously working with mobile network providers and if that isn't helping, go with traditional computer sales channel which is desperate about pulling "one up" on mobile phone carriers, which are recently heavily eating the traditional sales channel pie. Time will tell on how will xpPhone come to the market, but it is definitely approaching.
