announced an interesting display approach for low-power mobile devices. They now have a wireless USB
display module that can be controlled by another device, using a new board solution. This means you would carry a large display in your brief case and connect back via your wireless carrier and show a client your presentation. Display Solution AG
has developed the d-screen-HYBRID driver board which has been combined with the low power, sunlight readable Pixel Qi 10.1 inch screen. The Pixel Qi screen used is an innovative 10.1 inch TFT Liquid Crystal Display with LED backlight which supports 1024×600 mode and can display 262,144 colors in the transmissive mode [6-bit]. The screen also uses any room light or sunlight available to support two low power modes: a transflective mode where the backlight stays and any room light adds to the screen brightness, and a pure reflective mode that is black and white with 64 grayscales which is bright and clear even in direct sunlight. This technology enables subpixel rendering, standard now with most operating systems, and higher actual [native] resolution [3072×600] for very crisp text.

with 5-fold the power consumption [causing rapid battery drain in the case of standard LCD]. Since smartphones are now at the level of six-year-ago desktops, you can have an additional 10.1-inch display for a laptop or cell phone.
The new system only draws 1.5 watts. Display Solution AG adapted Pixel Qi's TFT Liquid Crystal Display with LED backlight screen and combined it with their latest board generation, the d.screen-HYBRID. It supports USB / Wireless-USB [based on DisplayLink technology
] as well as Ethernet [10/100Mbit, Gigabit] connected displays. All of the power is delivered from USB, no battery or power adapter is needed.
Pixel Qi has been selling replacement screens through Make Magazine
for netbooks. On the company's blog, Mary Lou Jepsen said, after telling a story about pre-teen Nigerian girls opening a laptop school, "it’s basically 6 screws, pulling off a bezel, unconnecting the old screen and plugging this one in. That’s it. It’s a 5 minute operation".
