Facebook's Zuckerberg Meets Saturday Night Live

1/30/2011 by: Darleen Hartley - Get more from this author

An unexpected appearance by the real Mark Zuckerberg surprised viewers who were watching Jessie Eisenberg host Saturday Night Live (SNL). Zuckerberg can be seen alongsude the fake Zuckerbergs who portrated him in the movie in a five-minute clip embedded at the article bottom.

SNL has been a favorite comedy spoof series for as long as many readers have been alive. It has launched numerous funny individuals, such as Chris Rock, Dana Carvey of Wayne's World fame, Eddie Murphy, and Blues Brothers, John Belushi into stardom. Stars from other genres appear as hosts, and take pot shots from the regulars.

Tonight, Eisenberg was front and center as host on the SNL stage. Andy Samberg, six-year SNL veteran, was imitating Zuckerberg when Zuckerberg himself, a somewhat reclusive personality, appears. Samberg gave way to the real thing.

Will the real Mark Zuckerberg please step forward

As they shared compliments, Eisenberg, who never met the well-known individual he had portrayed in the Social Network, told Zuckerberg that he liked his 60 Minutes interview. In return Zuckerberg, who reportedly was unhappy with how he was depicted in the Social Network, admitted seeing the movie about him and Facebook's beginnings, saying he found it "interesting."

Not exactly a rousing endorsement for an Academy Award nominee for Best Picture. The Facebook CEO showed up in a hoodie, ala the casual attire of Steve Jobs, while his actor counterpart stood in stark contrast in a professional business suit. Eisenberg, the New York actor who had the lead in Zombieland, showed another side of his talents playing the hyperactive Zuckerberg. It remains to be seen if the hyped meeting of the two stars from two different worlds will influence the voting of the Academy.
