Assange Explains the Art of Leaking and Talks Dirt He's Got on Bank of America

60 Minutes, a CBS show, on Sunday aired an exclusive interview with Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who spilled the beans on a number of topics, including dirt he allegedly has on Bank of America.

He also discussed how he handles sources and expressed concerns that a US government had been on a which hunt to shut down his whistleblower site by charging him with espionage and for publishing classified documents belonging to the Pentagon and the State Department.

Assange, 39, had sent governments around the world into cardiac arrest when he unleashed on his whistleblower site Wikileaks a huge database comprised of tens of thousands US diplomatic cables.

As a result, the governments around the world have been seeking ways to silence Assange while credit card companies and banks have frozen his assets and blocked payments from contributors around the world. That was a prelude to Assange's arrest in Britain over the raping charges filed earlier with a Swedish court. British court set Assange free weeks later on bail and he is under a house arrest now.

Assange earlier this month organized a public exchange of a bunch of confidential documents said to belong to a Swiss bank. Rudolf Elmer, a former banker who at a press conference handed Assange two optical discs, said they were filled with details of some 2,000 offshore bank accounts. When this information goes public, Assange hinted, a number of high-profile politicians in several countries will be put to shame.

Days later, Swiss police took Elmer to custody, prompting public criticism from Assange who said the banker found itself under fire because he dared reveal "a criminal offshore system of tax evasion in which Swiss banks play a leading role." Elmer, however, was convicted on January 19 for breaching banking secrecy while he had been working for former employee Julius Baer. During his tenure there, Elmer let in tax authorities on highly confidential client information.
