One can easily get overexcited amid all the swirling speculations coming out of the rumor-mill following Verizon's invitation to a New York presser. Assuming they do announce a CDMA version of the iconic smartphone next Tuesday (possibly utilizing Steve Jobs' showmanship), how long before the phone makes its way to Verizon Wireless stores nationwide?
Will it be a week or two from today? Or maybe it'll ship right there and then, next Tuesday? Neither, and you shouldn't count on the iPhone hitting the carrier's stores before the end of January, people familiar with the matter told Apple's unofficial mouthpiece, The Wall Street Journal.
While taking note of the fact that Verizon Wireless is set to release at least four 4G LTE smartphones by the middle of 2011, the paper explained a three-week wait between the formal announcement next Tuesday and actual shipment:
Apple has a track record of releasing phones between two and four weeks after it announces a new device. For example, the iPhone 4 was announced on June 7 this year and available in stores by June 24. The earlier versions of the phone, like the 3GS and the 3G, followed a similar pattern.
