Getting apps, paying for them or gifting your girlfriend with air time is easier than ever. BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) made several announcements in Barcelona, Spain related to the BlackBerry App World, its own application store that carries mobile apps. The company is proud of their expanding coverage and growing app store. BlackBerry smartphone subscribers can now download apps from the BlackBerry App World in 101 countries, the company boasted.
If you have a BlackBerry device with a trackball, trackpad or touchscreen running BlackBerry OS (device software) version 4.5 or higher, head on over to the BlackBerry App World online store. Over two million apps are being downloaded each day from a library of more than 20,000 items, the company said. Its army of developers is encouraged to add personal and business-oriented apps to that ever growing list. Users can access the BlackBerry App world from wireless or cellular networks and be presented with choices specific to their BlackBerry smartphone model from the store’s catalog.
Apps vary in pricing, but can be as inexpensive as 99 cents, or even free, such as the official phone book of Switzerland or can carry a small price tag for a WebEx Meeting Center, for example. Paying for an app couldn’t be easier. Payments can be made via PayPal, credit card or even charged to your wireless bill.
Telefónica is a telecommunications network functioning in 25 countries with a strong presence in Spain, Europe and Latin America. They just announced that they’ll allow their customers to apply BlackBerry App World purchases to their monthly bills. "Carrier billing is a payment method that brings a unique user experience and will further develop the on-device virtual goods and applications business," said Joaquín Mata, Global Head of Financial Services for Telefónica.
In a further attempt to make life easier for their customers, RIM has put a gifting mechanism in place. If you don’t know what to get someone for Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, or their birthday, giving a gift just got easier. You can pay for someone else’s BlackBerry services by using your account to approve and pay for airtime, apps or other carrier services for your friend or loved one. Subscribers can use the BlackBerry Messenger to make someone else’s day. Parents of college students can conveniently can cover their child’s need for more minutes or let them buy an app from the BlackBerry App World.
