Tomorrow, February 24, Steve Jobs turns 56. What better way for a self respecting fan to send his or her best wishes to the Silicon Valley luminary who co-founded Apple than post a birthday comment on a website set up especially for this very occasion?
Created by Raoul-Gabriel Urma and a bunch of computing students from Imperial College London, the website at happybirthdaystevejobs.com aims to collect publicly shared birthday wishes ahead of the billionaire's fifty-sixth birthday. It's also a way to support Steve "while he is currently dealing with serious health issues," Urma writes, adding the following:
He has inspired many of us with his charisma and enormous contribution to the technology world. Please join us in our effort to show him our support and gratitude. Our aim is to allow as many people to wish him a happy birthday this way letting him know he has a back-up of so many.
The website came up as the mercurial CEO appears to be facing the most important battle in his life amid reports of a cancer relapse. He is currently on an indefinite medical leave of absence, his third in five years. In a heart-breaking note announcing the leave, Apple's creative visionary wrote, "I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can." Last week's dinning with President Obama was his only public appearance following a press conference last September.
There were nearly two thousand wishes left on the site at press time from fans all over the world. "Happy bday Steve. Can't wait for another key note," writes one poster. "Happy birthday to the best iCEO. Get well soon," another one writes. This one is from a thirteen-year old: "Hi Steve! Hopefully you get better and make great technology! I am a iOS developer and I'm only 13! I am inspired by you!"
According to the rumors, Apple will honor its co-founder and chief executive by launching a refreshed MacBook lineup tomorrow, coinciding with his birthday. Apple usually releases important product updates on Tuesdays. The fact hasn't escaped an eagle-eyed fan who wrote:
Happy birthday Steve, no wonder MacBook is launched on Thursday rather than Tuesday because tomorrow is your birthday and get well soon.
