Back on CES 2011, representatives of OCZ Technology talked about Deneva
, their new product line dedicated to Enterprise market. Today, the company finally launched Deneva 2 series of products
, offered in 1.8", 2.5" and 3.5" form factors.OCZ Deneva 2 in 2.5" form factor. Based on current trends in enterprise, we believe this will be the most shipped form factor.
When the company designed Deneva 2, main guidance during development was to carry all the speed offered by SandForce SF-2000 series of controllers with Enterprise demands such as ECC (Error Checking and Correcting), advanced encryption, power loss data protection, intelligent block management, minimal write amplification and wear-leveling. According to OCZ, Deneva 2 targets "servers, cloud computing and data centers."
In terms of performance, Deneva 2 combines SF-2000 processors with eMLC (enterprise-grade Multi-Level Cell) NAND Flash memory chips. Performance-wise, OCZ rates Deneva 2 at 550MB/s read speed, as well as 500MB/s write speed. The most important figure for servers, number of input/output operations per second (IOPS) is peaking at 80,000 4K random write IOPS with the highest capacity drive. While this is less IOPS than recently introduced SanDisk Lightning SAS6Gbps series of SSDs
, OCZ offers significantly higher read and write speeds.
Deneva 2 SSDs tend to offer quite a lot of customization, offering several different interface options (SATA 6Gbps, SAS 6Gbps, HSDL and PCIe) combined with three popular form factors - 1.8", 2.5" and 3.5". We can definitely see a good use for quick 1.8" drives, especially in automotive and embedded industries.
We look forward to pitching Deneva 2 drive versus planned Seagate MLC and SLC NAND drive roundup, as well as SanDisk Lightning series. The competition is heating up.
