At E3 2011,
AMD is demonstrating a 180 degree screen which the company dubbed "Holodeck". Powered by three projectors, this setup delivers complete immersion into gaming experience.
In this video, you can see our own Mr. Anshel Sag testing the DiRT 3 gaming experience. Video available in Full HD resolution The company is using the well-known multi-display capabilities of "Northern Islands"the graphics architecture powering cards such as Radeon HD 6990 4GB. AMD needed a lot of graphics power in order to run DiRT 3 in Eyefinity3 configuration, i.e. 5760x1080 pixels with all the bells and whistles turned to the max.
We spoke with Matt Davis and Simon Solotko (Holodeck creator) of AMD Social Media Fame (@Solotko and @AMD_Unprocessed) and discussed the advancements in graphics, as well as the company focus on delivering the best possible gaming experience. The result should not be just a 180 degree experience (remember, Google calls five displays holodeck), but a full left-to-right, top-to-bottom 720 degree experience.
Unfortunately for E3, AMD ran out of time to present the Holodeck with passive 3D Glasses, but that is something the company is working hard to achieve (AMD HD3D ecosystem).
