Few weeks ago, we
broke the story about Eric Demers leaving AMD, and landing in Qualcomm in a very significant role. Following that departure, we wondered is the next big announcement regarding AMD will be a departure of another key figure or rather a signing of a big name that will turn the tide.
Unfortunately, this story is of the former kind. We have just learned that
Godfrey Cheng, one of old timers from the days of ATI Technologies just resigned from his position of Director, Client Technologies at Advanced Micro Devices. This position followed his former role of Director of Technical Marketing, which as we know was the most successfully launched processor for the company. Fusion APU launch was synchronized throughout the company segments, and the results are as you all know it.

However, current financial management did not listen to Rick Bergman (now
the CEO of Synaptics) and the team (incl. Eric Demers, Godfrey Cheng etc.) and did not rode the wave set forth and we all know what happened.
On a personal note, I've known Godfrey for years and it is natural for a born competitor (did we mention that Godfrey is a fellow racing spirit) to seek new challenges after most of the "old gang" is gone.
We don’t know where Godfrey is going to land, but regardless of that being Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Imagination Technologies or somebody completely different, we're quite certain that company will get a hands-on executive that has respect of hundreds of journalists and financial analysts.
