Today, NVIDIA's Icera 410 LTE and DC-HSPA+ modem was officially validated on AT&T's LTE network for use in phones destined for AT&T's LTE network. Currently, most LTE devices on AT&T's network use Qualcomm's MSM8960 integrated LTE baseband chip/modem. This validation means that in future version of NVIDIA's Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 designs, NVIDIA can use their own LTE baseband chip as a top down solution for customers and not lose design wins due to lacking a qualified LTE baseband for AT&T.
The Icera 410 itself is actually quite a versatile chipset allowing for 4G/3G/2G multimode (no CDMA) and supports multiple LTE bands including 700 MHz and 800 MHz. It also supports both 5 MHz and 10 MHz blocks of LTE bandwidth and is a category 2 modem meaning that it only reaches speeds of a maximum of 50 Mbps. Do note, though, that the Icera 410 comprises of a ICE8061 baseband chip and the ICE8261 RF IC. This solution may result in higher power consumption than some other integrated solutions, which may further motivate NVIDIA to integrate their Icera solutions more quickly into their SoCs.
In terms of 3G/HSPA+ the Icera 410 delivers HSPA+ Cat 14 (21 Mbps) and HSUPA Cat 6 (5.7 Mbps). The spec sheet for the Icera 410 chipset also states that it is upgradeable to 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ which means that it could in theory also be used on T-Mobile's '4G' network. And like many other GSM chipsets, it also supports Quad-Band GPRS/EDGE for voice coverage.
