Review: NZXT Cryo V60 Vortex Notebook Cooler

9/4/2012 by: Ryan Glovinsky - Get more from this author

Today we are taking a look at NZXT’s latest offering for notebook cooling, the Cryo V60, which uses a bladeless fan design.

V60:
  • Fan Specifications – Dual low RPM 75mm Fans
  • Fan Speed – 1000-1600 RPM
  • Features – Supports up to 16” Notebook, 3 USB Charge Ports, Power Button, Built-in Fan Control, LED On/Off, Rubber Feet
  • Materials – Plastic, Rubber Grommets
  • Color – Black or White
The NZXT Cryo V60 comes in two color options: black and white. The coolers came in identical boxes with a small designator on the box referring to it as a black or white V60. The packaging was simple but effective, and the box conveniently had a carry handle on the top for easy transport.

The coolers are very sleek looking, and we had a bit of trouble deciding if we liked the cooler better in black or white. The V60 is also very light, and the bladeless design is certainly aesthetically pleasing. The fan works by pulling cool air in through the back of the cooler, and blowing it onto the bottom of the notebook through the ring in the middle of the cooler.

The set up for the cooler is very easy and straightforward. Just place the notebook on top of the cooler, plug in the USB cable from the cooler to the notebook, and turn on the cooler using the switch on the right side. The fan speed control is on the right side of the cooler, it can be scrolled towards the user to increase the fan speed (maximum of 1600 RPM) or away from the user to decrease it (minimum of 1000 RPM). The cooler has a total of 3 USB ports, one to connect the cooler to the notebook, and the other two can be used as powered USB ports to charge devices (though they do not provide any data transfer).
