CES Unveiled event brought a lot of vendors together, but one of the most interesting ones was Quantenna Communications. 200-people strong company out of Silicon Valley came out with first products based on their QSR1000 chipset, enabling bandwidth of well over a gigabit per second. First product to use their chipset is ASUSTeK's new flagship router ASUS RT-AC87U. Quantenna's 4x4 MU-MIMO technology tackles the signalling issues inside households.
If you're wondering what can 1.7Gbps of bandwidth enable, just think of requirements for multiple Full HD video streams inside a household (YouTube, for example), or even better - stream 4K, Ultra HD video wirelessly. Two press releases below:Quantenna Powers World’s Fastest 802.11ac Dual-Band Wave 2 ASUS RT-AC87U Router
LAS VEGAS – January 6, 2014 – Quantenna Communications, Inc., a leader in ultra-reliable Wi-Fi networking for whole-home entertainment, and ASUS today at CES announced that Quantenna’s award-winning QSR1000 4x4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) chipset will power the ASUS RT-AC87U, the world’s fastest 802.11ac home router.
The RT-AC87U employs Quantenna’s 4x4 MU-MIMO chipset to deliver an unparalleled data throughput speed for the 5 GHz band (1.7 Gbps). Additionally, Quantenna’s superior digital beamforming will ensure whole home coverage when streaming rich multimedia, giving consumers the best Wi-Fi experience available. As the only wave 2, 802.11ac router in the market, Quantenna’s QSR1000 solution makes the RT-AC87U the only home router that can handle the future connected home bandwidth requirements, future proofing the consumer’s investment.
“Our customers value high-performance Wi-Fi and know the impact a reliable wireless connection has on their ability to stream bandwidth-intensive data, including video content,” said Tenlong Deng, associate vice president of Networking & Wireless Devices Business Unit for ASUS. “As wireless devices in the home continue to increase and consumers’ reliance on keeping connected at all times to live their daily lives is the norm, the importance people are putting on a great Wi-Fi experience is vastly elevated. That’s why we are so pleased to create this latest flagship router product with Quantenna.”
“With the increasing number of bandwidth-intensive activities occurring at once in the average home, consumers put great value in knowing that their Wi-Fi will deliver the wire-like reliability they need,” said Dr. Sam Heidari, CEO of Quantenna. “We are pleased to partner with ASUS to bring the first 802.11ac wave 2 home router to market, expanding our channels to consumers by bringing our Service Provider proven industry-leading performance into the retail segment.”
Other announcements from Quantenna were that they are partnering with Mimosa Networks to be the exclusive provider of the wireless 802.11ac wave 2 technology that will power Mimosa’s wireless hardware suite. ViXS XCode® Media Processor Sets New World Standard for Video Processing and Wireless Transmission
LAS VEGAS – January 6, 2014 – Quantenna Communications, Inc., a leader in ultra-reliable Wi-Fi networking for whole-home entertainment, today announced at CES that ViXS has added Quantenna’s 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology to their XCode 6400 reference design platform, the world’s first system-on-a-chip (SoC) that can decode and display Ultra HD 4K p60 HEVC at 10-bit. Ideal for wireless set-top boxes, the XCode 6400 family now features Quantenna’s award-winning QSR1000 4x4 802.11ac Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) chipset, giving it the wireless speed, stability and fidelity needed for 4K TV.
Paired with a Quantenna-enabled gateway, Quantenna’s QSR1000 provides unsurpassed data throughput of up to 1.7Gbps, with dynamic digital beamforming that intelligently strengthens connectivity, improves efficiency and extends wireless coverage range beyond that of any other solution. ViXS’s breakthrough video technology decodes more than 60 frames per second (fps) and displays HEVC Ultra HD TV 4K broadcasting content at full resolution of 3840x2160@60fps in both Main and Main 10 (M10P) profile. In addition, when decoding HEVC at HD resolution up to 1920x1080 the XCode 6400 requires only half the bandwidth of today’s AVC (H.264) video streams and just a quarter of the bandwidth of MPEG-2.
“4K stands for the utmost in picture quality, and that’s what the XCode 6400 delivers,” said Sally Daub, president and CEO of ViXS Systems Inc. “The XCode 6400 has set a new cost effective benchmark for true-to-life images, ultra-low-power operation and unsurpassed efficiency. Now Quantenna’s industry-leading QSR1000 chipset enables us to provide that same spectacular experience with the freedom of a wireless connection.”
“For service providers and set-top-box manufacturers, wire-quality Wi-Fi is no longer an option. It’s a necessity,” said Dr. Sam Heidari, CEO of Quantenna. “Our unique 802.11ac 4x4 MIMO architecture is a natural match for 4K video, reaching farther and performing faster and more reliably than any other. The QSR1000 adds a whole new dimension of performance to the ViXS XCode 6400, the best-in-class SoC for 4K Ultra HD TV.”
The enhanced XCode 6400 reference design will be available in Q1 2014.
