Augmented Reality stands to be the next great thing for museums and archeological sites. After years of researching, it looks like the power of graphics chips is finally in a position where 3D models could be glued onto the real world and enhance our visual experience.
Allard Pierson Museum chose to use Augmented Reality during its latest exhibition, "A Future for the Past". In order to use Augmented Reality, exhibition organizers decided to rely on two 24" iMac computers powered by nVidia GeForce GT130 GPUs [9600GSO or castrated 8800GT for those that can't stand nVidia's renaming schemes]. If you have a minute, we would advise you to take a look at the YouTube video.
The exhibition is open from April 8th to October 9, 2009. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10-17:00, as well as Saturday & Sunday from 13-17:00. If you end up going to Amsterdam, this exhibition just might be the right thing to enhance your Holland experience.
