nVidia's 3D Glasses can be found for free

Here at BSN*, nVidia's 3D Vision glasses is one of the harder topics here. Even though the technology has some serious limitations [only two 120Hz LCDs on the market, and is not compatible with majority of 100 and 120Hz Plasma/LCD TVs] and the fact that the device does not feel great - has resulted in mixed adoption.

We asked nVidia's reps why they didn't employ somebody like Oakley to create a better designed part, instead of "going cheap" and the result was quite interesting. One executive that will remain anonymous shot down the proposal citing "we are out of budget for that", resulting in well, a decision to try to sell $200 glasses looking like $15 ones.

Given that Samsung's display doesn't support Full HD resolution, the lukewarm reception was expected. After all, what 3-Way SLI or SLI gamer with 30" display would go down to a 22"? Enter Back-to-School 2009 and the sales campaign over at TigerDirect. This e-tailer is bundling Samsung's 22" 120Hz LCD display and either a PNY GeForce GTX 260 or 275 graphic cards, while giving away the 3D glasses for free.

The bundle with GTX260 is priced at $544.99, while pairing Samsung, 3D Vision glasses and GTX275 sets you back for $599.99.

Regardless of our criticism, if you're in for a new display, this might be a good way to enjoy hottest games in 3D and not just them [watching movies in 3D is really something special, Ed.]. In our opinion, charging $400 for monitor+glasses combo was something nVidia and Samsung should have done from day one – and the world would be filled with 120Hz, 3D Vision-compliant panels.
